The Crescanian Confederacy (Crescanian; Tak'rrta Crescanaia) is a galactic superpower based from the planet of Cusorea in the Fauc System. Having an extremely harsh homeworld, the Croiz now face severe overpopulation due to their technological advances, and has taken drastic measures, such as aggressive and hasty colonization of worlds, both uninhabited and inhabited. No one is sure why it is called a Confederacy, as the nation is in fact officially a federation led by an imperialist monarchy, with a Gu'ush as head of state.
Crescania makes use of heavy slave labor in order to ease the negative effects of overpopulation as well as earn money through international slave trade. This, together with the Agzavár Asteroid Field surrounding the sun Fauc, which contains rocks extremely rich on resources, has made the Confederacy without doubt one of the - if not the - richest nations of them all. Though, not surprising, this use of slave labor, which includes most of the non-Croiz Crescanian population, has soured relations with other nations, especially the already alien-hostile Human empires of the New Covenant and the United Systems Commonwealth. However, despite this, Crescania has managed to build strong relations with the Ventus Kingdom of Edolas. Crescania is also the largest threat against Humanity with exception of the Galactic Threats, which further fuels hostilities from the Human empires. Crescania itself sees the Human Defence Coalition as the greatest threat towards all galactic life, mainly because of the horrid atrocities of extermination that has been shown by the New Covenant multiple times. Crescania does not seek a war with the Coalition, but fully expects it to be necessary in order for the Croiz to become the dominant race in the galaxy. However, they are starting to doubt the value of their alliance treaty with Kingdom of Edolas, who have shown to be extremely reluctant in fighting humans.
The Capital of Crescania is the grand metropolis of Scakazie, located on the north-eastern edge of the continent of Carissa on Cusorea. It is a huge city, home to over sixty million people and surrounded by a thick metal wall over a hundred meters high to protect from storms and hostile wildlife. It is a gigantic fortress made of glass and metal, with automatic defense guns scattered on hundreds of rooftops. In the words of the Edolasian journalist Daisuke Yanamoto, it is "a living paradise of stone and snow, with towers of glass and steel piercing the white clouds; an oasis of safety on a dangerous world". This was naturally an appreciated review for the Scakazie bureau of travel and tourism.
The Kingdom of Crescania was formed in the year of -650 G.C (1568 a.d Earth time) when a nobleman by the name of Nirarel Crescana broke a region the size of Earth's Estonia free from the great Trossit Empire in a rebellion by rallying the people to rise against the Trossits and reclaim their once-conquered land of Nacki. But although the rebellion was successful through the support of the friendly nation of Raktas, Crescana only managed to conquer a portion of what he had initially planned, which was the entire old nation of Nacki. Nevertheless, in -649 G.C, Crescana declared himself King Nirarel I of new Nacki.
As with all too many rulers through history, Crescana eventually got mad with the increasing power he received from continuous conquests of territories in the now crumbling Trossit Empire. He figured that the nation of Nacki was a thing of the past; He was the nation! So in -636 G.C, the nation switched name to the Kingdom of Crescania. After that, it went downhill until Crescana eventually became the bloodthirsty tyrant he had rebelled against years ago.
The Crescana dynasty remained in power for over 1500 years, during which Crescania continued to grow relentlessly by grabbing land to the east. The Trossit Empire fell in the first Cusorean world war between 616-622G.C. Then, in 871G.C, a Crescanian general named Ultor Hax initiated a coup in which he overthrew the Crescana dynasty and executed the royal family along with King Narcáv III the Tyrant. Hax then declared himself King Ultor II of Crescania. Why he decided to keep the name is unknown.
The reign of the Hax dynasty was short, though. It fell in 909G.C due to Ultor's strategically incompetent son Taral taking the throne. During Taral's reign, it is estimated that Crescania lost almost 60 percent of its territory. Yet another coup was staged, this time by the nobleman Chekra Charas, who had been a good friend to the Crescana family. The coup resulted in the public decapitation of King Taral and the destruction of the Hax dynasty, replacing it with the Charas dynasty. Now Crescania started expanding again.
The Charas dynasty reigned from the year 909G.C until Queen Linive Charas married Kav Jokai in 1693G.C, thus beginning the Jokai dynasty, which in turn ended when King Wasi Jokai was murdered by a man still unknown, leaving his cousin Sarf Chaxus to take the throne.
The Vaisk family came to power in 2145G.C with the end of the twenty-year-long conflict known as the Red War. However, the leader of the new Crescania, Jositei Vaisk, refused taking the place as king, claiming monarchy was long outdated. Instead, the now huge and vastly dominant empire would become a democracy, with Jositei becoming the first Gu'ush in history. To symbolize this major change, the nation was renamed into the Crescanian Confederacy. However, with time, the democracy gradually disappeared as it was seen as a weakness, and monarchy made a re-entry. But the title of Gu'ush stayed and the nation remained being called the Crescanian Confederacy.
In 2277G.C, Gu'ush Gragim Vaisk decided that now that Crescania was so far superior to every other nation on the planet, its territories spanning more than two and a half continents, was it really necessary for there to be other nations? With that thought, Gragim declared war against a total of eleven different nations, starting the third Cusorean world war, later to be called the Crescanian Unification War. In the end, only five nations existed on Cusorea other than Crescania. However, Gragim never got to experience that victory - the war lasted for 122 years, and Gragim was assassinated at the age of 63, during the thirty-seventh year of the war. With total victory over the rest of the world, it only took another 7 years before the Confederacy had swallowed the last independent nation. In 2406G.C, the Confederacy declared itself sovereign ruler of the world.
The great Crescanian Expansion began eighty years after space travel had been invented, with the armies of Gu'ush Nirarel Vaisk invaded the world of Aascan in 2550G.C. The native Aascanans had simple tribal societies, and believed it was scaled demons coming down from the skies dressed in iron skin with metal sticks that spat fire. Not surprising, the natives did not stand a chance, and the Confederacy had full control of the entire planet in 2579G.C. The local populace was enslaved and put to work in building up great cities on the planet's surface.
The next target was Keracka, which was invaded in 2670G.C. Crescania had gained many colonies since the conquest of Aascan, but this was the first time they had encountered an alien species since Aascan. The Kerackians were far more advanced than the Aascanans were, but the Crescanians had pulse rifles firing heated slugs while the Kerackians had gunpowder weapons comparable to 1940's Earth technology. Once again, Crescania had control of the entire planet within less than thirty years, and once again the populace was enslaved.
After Kerackia came Salchissa, which was discovered in 2710G.C. Similar story here: the Salchissians were far less advanced than the Crescanians, and in 2744G.C, the entire planet was under Crescanian control. The final civilization to be conquered and enslaved were the Haká, who were discovered on the planet of Kiláki in 2801G.C. The Haká were first believed to be too dangerous to be kept as slaves, and so, they initiated an extermination war. When they realized they could indeed use Haká as slaves, there was less than half a billion Haká left. The Haká population has since then been kept in a tight grip.
In 2861, Crescanian explorers discovered the lush garden world of Cargeffi. A scouting crew landed on the surface of the planet and discovered that it was inhabited by large beasts now known as Cargeffians. The Cargeffians lived in very primitive tribal societies, with a culture based strongly on aggression and submission. When the scouting crew refused to submit to the native clan chief, the Cargeffians instead slaughtered them. Four days later the Confederacy retaliated by launching a full-scale invasion of the world, igniting a war of extermination on the Cargeffians. The war was over in merely six months, resulting in the extinction of the Cargeffian race.
Gu'ush Hazzet Njakja Vaisk came to power when his father died in 2820G.C. Since then, the Confederacy has continued expanding, but Hazzet is convinced that it is impossible to conquer every alien race he encounters, and so he instead attempts to interact with them. The official story right now says that the next Gu'ush will be his son, H'rrahu Cai Vaisk.

Crescania is among the largest galactic nations, bordering to the Kingdom of Edolas, the Unani Empire and the Kurgan Empire. This border placement cause both ease and tension, as while Edolas and Unani are close allies, there is a strong tension between the Croiz and the Human Kurgan. The empire is located in the north-western edge of the galaxy, near the galactic edge.
Crescania has 246 colonies, a number to which they have been adding for the last 320 years. However, Crescania's directions of expansion were very limited as they had until only a few years ago been trapped within the treacherous Roxamacabaido nebula, which stopped them from advancing further into the galaxy and cause them to instead putting effort in spreading their influence in the space they had. Then, when new navigational equipment allowed them to navigate safely through the nebula, the Confederacy had a major boom of territory, going from only a few colonies to the present numbers. It is estimated that within a hundred years, Crescania will have well over 400 colonies.
Crescania tends to stick to cold planets, since the dominant Croiz subspecies - the Carissian Croiz - are used to the cold-to-moderate climate of their homeland, and usually don't enjoy hot weather. This has come to be a problem when colonizing worlds, as habitable worlds are hard enough to find without having to find a cold one. Terraforming is sometimes used when it does not threaten any planetary balance, but terraformation procedures take years to complete. There are of course exceptions of this criteria, like Keracka. Keracka's global jungle and desert climate is far too hot for Croiz to feel comfortable, but the planet produces high amounts of iron and green energy, which makes it far too valuable to ignore or temper with.
The Croiz are the leading race of the Crescanian Confederacy.
The Croiz are a bipedal, humanoid race of sentient reptilians, perfectly adapted to endure the extremely harsh conditions of their homeworld Cusorea, where their population are still being regularly eaten by ferocious and sometimes enormous predators. The Croiz are themselves predators, and can sometimes show their ferocious side that still carries with them from the early days of their existence. But the Croiz were not ferocious or big enough - the average Croiz male and female reaching up to 170 and 160 centimeters respectively - so their species instead took to extreme breeding rates. Unlike most animals who only have one breeding season per year, the Croiz have six, and the females could lay up to 10 eggs at a time. As the Croiz became more and more advanced in technology, this ultimately caused an extreme population explosion, with death rates decreasing by 80% and birth rates increasing by around 350%. This ultimately led to what all Croiz know as "The Altering" where the Croiz were forced to genetically manipulate their own species to severely lower birth rates and thus prevent the booming overpopulation from becoming any worse. And it worked; instead of 10-15 eggs every time and almost everyone surviving, which was normal back then, female Croiz nowadays lay on average 1.75 eggs every five years, and some only have one child in their whole lifetime. Despite this, the Croiz are still overpopulated, with populations reaching up to 45 billion.
The Croiz are a proud race that has seen itself as genetically superior for centuries. And with no surprise, as if compared to Humans, Croiz mature faster, have better hearing, better sight, better sense of smell and even taste, better mobility and more densely placed muscle fibers, giving them naturally stronger muscles. However, they are, as said before, shorter and also have shorter life spans, living up to 80 or 90 years where the Humans have learned to live up to 150 or more. According to Edolasian biologist Kazuma Kyoshi, Croiz also have "an interesting way of aging". The female Croiz is pregnant with an egg for four months. The egg is then laid and will hatch in another four months. Croiz reach maturity at the age of 16, where Humans mature at around 20, and keep a relatively young body health for most of their lives, acting as if they're 40 when they're 70. But then, they suddenly hit a breaking point and their bodies age at a very fast rate, and often does not have much time left to live afterwards. This often occurs between the age of 75 and 85, but very rarely any later than that.
The Croiz are divided into four subspecies, named after the areas they originate from.
The Carissian Croiz hail from the ice-covered northern parts of the continent of Carissa, and are the dominant among the Croiz, and also have the most dominant genes. The Carissian Croiz are naturally stronger and tougher than their cousins because northern Carissa is the most hostile place on the planet, counting in all factors. It is not as cold as the poles, but the northern areas crawl with vicious predators such as the Haigo Worm or the Racon. Carissian Croiz scales are green and red, and they turn gray when they grow old and the pigments start to die. Their dominant languages are Crescanian and Hungarian.
Aracinian Croiz are the second most common among the subspecies, and originate from the equatorial continent of Aracino. Their genes are pretty dominant, and can barely rival Carissian genes, but Carissian-Aracinian hybrids tend to have small blue patches on their bodies, most commonly under their eyes. The Aracinian Croiz differ from their cousins in that they are the only ones with long, black bone spines sticking out of their scalp, bending backwards. They are also the only of the Croiz that are actually poisonous to eat, as shown by their bright white, blue and yellow colors. This makes other Croiz subspecies - especially Carissians - look down on them, as the Aracinians did not have to defend themselves as ferociously, as only certain creatures could eat them. Dominant languages among the Aracinians are Crescanian,Spanish and Makhoul.
Nyzian Croiz are a little rarer subspecies that live on the southern parts of the Carissian continent, mostly in the Nyzzin Desert. They are the second most integrated subspecies in the Confederacy, but are slowly declining in numbers due to the more dominant Carissian and Aracinian genes. The Nyzian Croiz look mostly like their northern cousins, only they usually have longer limbs and tail, are more resistant to heat and are more red than the Carissians. Dominant languages are Nyzian and Arabic.
Lothessan Croiz are an extremely rare subspecies of Croiz that live on the Isles of Lothes. Lothessan Croiz are completely white and have red eyes, which makes people often mistake them for albinos, which is something they are known to take offense by. The reasons the Lothessan Croiz are so few are first that their genes are dominated by the ones of all the other subspecies and are decreasing relatively fast in numbers. Lothessans tend to be looked down upon, though, as they are often seen as arrogant due to their "special" heritage. Dominating language among the Lothessans is Khalik.
The Crescanian society is one held in an iron grip by its government, with countless scanners and cameras keeping track of its populace constantly, mainly in order to diffuse would-be revolts from the oppressed races enslaved by the Croiz. The society firmly rejects the idea of racial and social equality, and instead of appealing to the interests of the subject species after the renowned Kerackian Rebellion in which the Croiz nearly lost control of the worlds of Keracka and Éberség, radical methods were put to use in order to monitor the movements and every-day lives of every Crescanian citizen in order to prevent civil unrest from spreading, and no one can become a citizen in the Confederacy until their DNA has been registered on government data banks. This method is deployed through the usage of countless military-guarded control checkpoints in every city where every citizen must make a hand print-test with built-in DNA scanner as well as verify ID in order to pass the checkpoint. This method has also lowered crime rates on an extreme level, as in theory, no one can enter new parts of any city without getting their ID checked, and thus also their crime record, which provides easy arrests for the stationed military.
The philosophical idea of racial superiority is a major pillar holding up the Crescanian society, and nowadays even many people of the subject races have accepted the idea of the stronger species ruling the weaker, the Salchissans embracing this idea the deepest with the exception of the Croiz. This philosophy has also lead to exceptions in Crescanian law being made for certain species. For example, beating a slave is not a legal offense as long as the damage does not temporarily or permanently cripple the slave's productivity. However, as slaves, or 'workers' as the Croiz call them in order to reduce the feel of oppression, can free themselves from their positions and become full citizens of the Confederacy, when they do so, it is important they are publicly established as free subjects, since beating a free person of a subject species is just as much a legal offense as beating a Croiz. This detail has not always existed; it was introduced with the slightly more liberal policies of Hazzet Njakja Vaisk.
Crescanian society has a special code of honor which virtually all people in the empire has accepted due to centuries of cultural influence and integration. This honor code originates from the Croiz and differs greatly in some points from that of other cultures. It presents the idea of personal and military honor, and strongly promotes bravery, loyalty, honesty, cooperation and unity, but abolishes ideas like mercy, democracy or equality, stating instead that things such as these are weaknesses, leading them to be looked down upon in a person. This code is like a set of unwritten laws stitched into the fabric of all Croiz cultures, developed and enforced through millenia.
The Empire is a so-called Gu'ushate, which is a despotic monarchy that lacks a throne, a crown and a nobility, is more military-centered than other monarchy types and is led by a Gu'ush. Since there is no nobility, the monarch has unrivaled power across the nation, in comparison to monarchies from the Human medieval ages, where the monarch had to struggle with his or her nobles and rarely had any real power. The word of the Gu'ush is generally seen as law, and those who question it is generally shunned quickly and ignored. The Gu'ush is expected to know what is best for the nation and set the empire's needs before his or her own. But they are also expected to rule the nation with an iron fist, which is what is required to alone keep a hold of such a vast empire and its population. This is most often the case, as all children of the Gu'ush are by tradition put into high-ranking positions of the military, and thereby grow into capable leaders.
As of now, the current Gu'ush is Hazzet Njakja Vaisk, and his heir is his oldest son - H'rrahu Cai Vaisk. However, because of H'rrahu's arrogant and aggressive behavior as well as hostile look at non-Croiz, the Gu'ush is considering nominating Daver Valno Vaisk, one of H'rrahu's younger brothers, to be Gu'ush instead. This would however be neither easy nor safe, as many are loyal to H'rrahu Cai and his ideals, and H'rrahu views the title of Gu'ush as his birthright. Political ramafications would be sure to follow, possibly violent ones.
The Crescanian economy is, although the largest of all empires, very fragile due to the high populations and enormous military, as well as the dozens of colonization projects taking place. This has called for a demand of carefully planned and well thought-out budgets, which all have very little place for modifications and additions. 46% of the economical budget goes to military production, which includes training soldiers, manufacturing equipment, equipping soldiers, as well as building ground, water and air vehicles and space craft. 10% of the budget goes to military and civilian research, which have resulted in the development of cheap but strong plasma weaponry, kinetic barriers and most recently a new propulsion system for both firearm ammunition and space craft. The rest of the budget is distributed throughout the many parts of the civilian sector. The economy is for the moment doing relatively well, but would crash if it weren't for the Confederacy's large use of slave labour, which saves tenths of billions in, among other things, salaries every year, and allows for products to be bought and sold for down to a tenth of the price it would have without the free labour.
However, with The Kingdom of Edolas soon finishing a so-called Factory Moon which is planned to be given as a gift to the Confederacy for their alliance, the use of slave labour will all but disappear through the massive production capability the moon will provide, which will without doubt call for reforms of both the economy and the society. Reforms that may not be particularly appreciated by certain parts of the population.
